40th Harrington Open

Harrington SAC held their 40th annual cod open between Whitehaven North Pier and Workington Blocks on Saturday. The event was fished in a dying wind and persistent rain.

A great turnout of 171 seniors and nine juniors entered the competition and 51 seniors brought cod to the scales.

In first place with a cracking cod of weighing 6lb 3oz was Tom Whitehead, earning him the top prize of £1000.

In second spot was Harrington SAC member Jamie Robertson with a cod of 5lb 13½oz winning him £500. Picking up £300 in third place was M Casson with a cod of 5lb 2oz and the £200 fourth placed prize went to club member Alan Hill with a fish of 4lb 8oz.

7th Craig Whitehead with a cod of 3lb 12oz
8th Paul Hodgson with a cod of 3lb 11 1/2oz
9th Gary Moore with a cod of 3lb 11oz
10th M Jackson with a cod of 3lb 9oz.

The Juniors also brought cod to the scales with some great fish being landed.

Young Jess Henderson took the top spot with a fine cod of 2lb 9oz winning her the main prize of £50.00 and a rod. Second place went to Nathon Hulon with a fish of 1lb 6oz, winning him £30 + a £15 voucher. D Clarke finished third with a 1lb 2oz cod winning him £20 +a £10 voucher and Kelvin Lynch was fourth, picking up a £5.00 voucher, rig winders and wallet.

The nine juniors fished extremely well and are to be congratulated for braving the wet weather.

Harrington SAC would like to give a big thank you to Malcolm Laverty of Rigged Out Rigs and Cumbria Angling and to Nick Aldersey with helping at the registration as well as all the club members who help ensure the smooth running of the event.

They would also like to pass a big vote of thanks to Barry McGlasson for all his hard work behind the scenes particularly during his trying times.
