Humberside/Lincolnshire/Yorkshire report

First signs of codling

The first few cod of the season are being reported on the back of this week’s big tides. Odd reports of cod from the Killingholme shore, and in the boats around the 5A buoy. Large numbers of good whiting also showing.

Lots of very small flounders from the beach at Cleethorpes during the latest Cleethorpes Angling Centres match.  At the other end of the beach near to the pier there were lots of small schoolies and also a good 47cm bass for Dave Lord. Match winner John Atkinson had 15 fish for 307cm – all small bass.

John Atkinson and Simon Drayton have formed J&D promotions and they are having matches on a Thursday night the first one is at East Halton fishing 7pm to 10.30pm on the 25th September – it is at low water so take you waders as it might be a little muddy!

The top anglers from this area went to Llandudno last Saturday and most them did well. Bill Sheppard was second overall, with George Smith and Garry Hutson both doing well in their sections.

Boats: In addition to whiting caught in the river, there are some decent rays showing. Lots of small bass off the sand banks on ragworm.

Next Wednesday it is the HCA boat angling section meeting and George and Adie from the tackle shop will be there. They have managed to get hold of some very good priced boat rods and reels so if you are looking for new gear this season it might be worth bringing some cash along.
