Ian Woods H.S.F. Boat Open report

Flat calm seas and blazing sunshine enabled boats get to well offshore. As expected, ling made up most of the catches but some cracking cod were boated too. In the over 20-foot section, Brian Wilkes on ‘White Diamond’ took the biggest ling of 19lb 8oz; this specimen was the biggest of a tremendous haul of 60 fish, which included around twenty double figured fish.

Perhaps the most notable fish of the event fell to Norman White on ‘Slinky Kate’. Fishing a mere 200 yards off the Tyne piers, and using ragworm on a pink muppet, Norman bagged a superb 16lb 8oz cod on his very last drop to finish second overall. Third placed Billy Campbell ran Norman incredibly close with a ling of 16lb 7oz taken aboard Star Dance.

In the under twenty foot section Gareth Thomas on ‘Dani-K’ topped the pile with a cod of 8lb 14oz; followed by Ronnie Duell on ‘Reiver 1’ with another of 5lb 12oz.
