by David Proudfoot

Daiwa introduce three new twin speed lever drag reels to the Saltiga range for 2011.

Like the other Saltiga reels these have a machined aluminium, one piece frame and side plate.

The handle is fitted with a comfortable oversized knob and the end plate has a line out clicker switch. To engage the substantial stainless steel helical drive in low 4.1:1 gear the button at the base of the handle is depressed with an easy to reach lever providing the shift back up into high speed rated at 6.3:1.

All three reels in the series are fitted with 8 corrosion resistant ball bearings and have casting brakes. The line capacity varies from 270m of 20lb BS mono in the 302 model to 320m of 30lb BS in the largest 502 reel. The recommended retail price for these top of the range reels is from £450 to £499.

Daiwa say –

“Lever drag control combined with twin speed retrieve, built around the machined power of a Saltiga delivers high performance in quite awesome proportions.

Three models with two ratio selections and a lever drag that allows for ten positions of engagement from ‘free to strike’ ensure that almost all sport species will have met their match.”
