Plymouth Lure Fishing Festival

by David Proudfoot

The first Plymouth Lure Festival will take place on 30th and 31st August this year and is expected to attract a great entry from around the UK. The event, which is fished using lures only ie no natural baits, will be fished on a catch and release basis with all fish measured, photographed and returned alive.

The competition, organised by Seaview Angling tackle shop in Plymouth, is supported by several major tackle firms including TronixPro, Pure Fishing, Fladden, Masterline, HTO and Kiddy.

Anglers can take part from the shore or from a kayak using general lures or in the LRF category. By providing family fun events including and bouncy castle, hog roast and raffle the organisers hope to attract a large junior entry. Seaview Angling will loan fishing kits to juniors just starting out who don’t have their own tackle.

Contestants will be issued with an official tape measure and laminated identity card, which must appear in each photograph of their catch to ensure the catch is authentic. Prizes are available for different species and only one prize is available per entrant to spread the prize list among those attending. The main target species will be bass, wrasse, pollack and mackerel together with a host of mini species as LRF targets.

Among the added attractions is the TronixPro fishing simulator where visitors can try their hand at fighting fishing in the company of company owner George Cunningham. The non-fishing events will take place in the car park outside the tackle shop and the boundaries for the actual fishing are from Salcombe to Looe.

The start time for the event is 6am on the Saturday and it finishes at 3pm on the Sunday following.

Tickets for the Festival cost £20 for adults, £10 for juniors, and are available from the shop on 01752 269698 or via Facebook.
