Skegness Pier Angling Club – Wolla Bank

by Chas Tibble

The first smoothounds of the year were a welcome addition to catches in the latest Skegness Pier Angling Club (SPAC) match held at Wolla Bank, north of Chapel. Top Grimsby match angler Garry Hutson caught a matching pair of the hard fighting small sharks late on in the match and ran out easy winner with an excellent bag weight of 18lb 12oz. Smoothounds are not eligible for the heaviest round fish prize, which also went to Garry for a 2lb 12oz bass.

Coming back down to earth after last week’s easy match win was Skegness local Richard Leighton, who was blanking throughout the match, but then came good to take second place with a last cast 10lb 4oz hound. Croxton’s Dave Burr also caught a hound on his last cast, which along with four nice flounders, gave him third place with 7lb 1oz. Wrangle’s Alan Steadman came in fourth with 6lb 6oz and also won the heaviest flatfish award with a nice 1lb 3oz flounder.

The next SPAC match is the annual Lincolnshire Pairs event, which will be held on Saturday 30th Jun from 1 till 5pm at Trunch Lane. The match is open to non-members, with an entry fee of £30 per pair and will be pegged over two zones.
