Staring down the barrel of my third trip off the south coast of England blown out in a row, and I’ve had enough.

At the start of April me and the family are off to Playacar for two weeks r’n'r. Got a day out chasing sailfish and half day snapper fishing with the kids booked with Captain Rick’s. Can’t wait to beat those winter blues with some tropical sun…..and hopefully some fish.

Perhaps someone can tell me however, I have only been big game fishing a few times and each time after a series of notably unsuccesful party trips I always end up hooking a barracuda at the end of the trip. Are Barracuda the tropical equivalent to dog fish in the uk? Are they so easy to catch that the skippers target these as a last resort to make sure there is a fish on the boat?

That said I had a half day to myself 10 years ago in April off of Peurto Aventuras and saw the beak hit the teasers 6 times in one half day without getting a hook up - this time I’m going to get one! cool smile

It may just be that the skippers decide to switch to the rougher ground for a session at the end of the day.

I must have learned from others’ mistakes. I haven’t had time to think all those up myself.
