I was looking to buy a fishing kayak next year and was looking for some pointers on what to go for. Two kayaks have caught my eye so far, Perception freedom and Ocean kayak prowler 13, anyone got an opinion on which 1 of these is better.
I was also thinking about an inflatable due to transport/ storage convienence and would like to hear anyones thoughts on these. I am average build and would be using the kayak in lochs and coasts around central scotland. Thanks.

I’ve never paddled anything out of the Perception Freedom range so can’t really comment on them.

I’m 6 foot and about 14.5 stone. I have the Ocean Prowler Elite and think it’s a great yak. The P13 is very popular, is a solid all rounder and would probably be very suitable for you.

The only bit of advice i’d give you is DO NOT rush into buying anything without trying it out first. Most of the manufacturers have demo days where you can go along a test paddle the yaks. I was lucky I bought the Elite “in a rush” and got on well with it. I tried a scupper pro a few weeks ago and didn’t get on with it at all. I very nearly bought the scupper pro instead of the elite, thank goodness I didn’t.

Thanks Stephen. I will try to look out for some demo days, didn’t know you could do that.
Given that I have never been on a sit on top before it would probably be a good idea.

My brother in law has a Perception Freedom and my mate has a Prowler 13 (I have a Prowler 13 Elite). Havinsg seen both the boats you are thinking about side by side my advice would be to go fo the P13. In my view its just better in every department. Build quality, layout, dryer ride, performance…... I hope this helps.

Cheers for your opinion Stuart.
Helpful to know from someone who has had first hand experience of both boats. I think I am beginning to favour the P13 too.
