Morning all
I have just joined the Dutch Surf Casting Federation here in Holland, as when i first came to live here no one fished with multipliyer reels so, not wanting to be different i also fished with a fixed spool reel in combination with a continental 5mtr casting rod.
The combination works quite well easy casting with the long length and a fixed spool reel that cannot go wrong ,no birds nests, it is the lazy mans beach fishing.
But i missed the grunt and the chance of a nest also the sense of achievment in casting above the average distances, so sold all but two of my lazy fishing gear[ they are good for night fishing] and searched EBAY, fishing sites, and any other means of getting back to old fashion beach fishing using modern gear.
Century was my choice of rod and Penn 525s were my choice of reel, using a lot of advice from you planetfishing members i went to the beach only to find i had forgotten how to pendal cast, i was using a mix of half pendal and half 5mtr rod cast i coursed many problems with tangles and nieghbering fishers, it was downright dangeres.
Therefore i have just had my first lessen [from a very good Dutch surf caster]  to get back my English heritage of pendal casting.

Good stuff Chris, difficult to get back a casting style when you’ve been used to using another. Casting from the boat has knackered my shore casting.

I must have learned from others’ mistakes. I haven’t had time to think all those up myself.

Yep, the 6500 and 5500 in various guises and mods are the favoured reels.
