I had a stroll with the dogs around one of my favourite fly/pugging marks near Osmington Mills (Dorset) this morning and was surprised to see quite a few Mullet darting around the rocks. It looks like it’s time to dust off the fly rod and start the annual battle of wits.
The mullet flies I tied last year were designed to imitate floating bread, which worked well in the harbours but not at Osmington. This year I’ve tied some flies to resemble Kelp Fly maggots for use when it’s warmer but I’m scratching my head on what to try at this time of year when its still a bit cool. I’ll try some Clouser patterns and small Crystal Minnow flies… but if all else fails - anyone got a spare loaf of bread?
