Me boat that is.

I’ve been helping on a charter boat recently as a deck hand and I’ve put a bit of work into the economics of boat ownership, but the overriding thing is I have no-one to fish with when I go out on my own boat.  That takes a lot of the enjoyment out of it.  When I take my one out it will cost about £20 in juice.  theres also the bait cost, normally around £15.  I can only get out for either 4 hours or I have to go over two tides because of the tide coverage of the slipway.  Add in the storage, insurance and servicing and it works out to be an expensive way to get out.

If I crew o the charter boat then I fish for free but if I book then its £30 including bait.  theres always someone to natter with, and theres alway the friendly rivalry.

I prefer to fish with people than without.

Looks like the boats going to have to go on ebay!

If your a deckie you fish for free! thats a liberty mate, either your fishing or your a deckie, cant be both in my book, your either not helping your paying customers and they are having to gaff their own fish and to top that your possibly catching the fish that they have paid to catch. Doesnt sit with me, anyone who knows me knows I am not greedy in any way, but I am not into taking liberties or having them taking with me.

Its an opinion.

The parties that I fish alongside are regulars and they get a cheaper rate because we are fishing too.  If I’m fishing as well as decking then I don’t get paid.  If its a new party and they are paying full rate then I don’t fish, neither does the skipper.  I know what your saying and agree that if its a full on charter party, it would be taking liberties.

The gaff is used as little as possible, netting the fish is the norm.

If its a full paying charter its a fact not an opinion, if its like you say and the guys have an understanding about it and get a better rate, thats different, everyone is happy.

Gaff/Net whatever! it was my point that was more important.
