Just back from Rome today and yep, my rod case got broken!  One of the England guys suffered the same thing on way out, and I know of another that had his broken last year too.
As these cases are meant to be FAA approved I am surprised that they don’t stand up to a bit of rough, mine was brand new so was not an age issue.  Looks like I am going to have to reinforce mine with some aliminium strapping now.

Anyone else suffered the same fate?

Ive seen that many a time with Kiss tubes and Bazuka’s Ian,, i made my own using 8ft 6in/7inch dia/11mm thick section of tubing i nicked from a building site many moons ago, i also have a 13in dia one thats a bit on the heavy side but will take 10+ rods!! there both bullet proof, you can jump all over it and nothing, i think the people that make these travel tubes need to get out in the real world and see the treatment they actually get from airport loading staff

Geezas Paddy 11mm thick, you’d be more worried about the damage to the plane than you would the rods grin

Iain,

Here is a diagram I drew for you, I built mine over 10 years ago, its been to the US and back dozens of times and I’ve never had any damage problems either with the contents or the tube, the only thing that needs to be renewed now and then is the duct tape. If you need any more info PM me.

Tom.

Edit: Forgot to add, you will make 2 for about 50 euros (£40.00 ish) max!

The Bazooka will be modified with two 3mm aluminium plates, the end will be stronger than the rest.
When we went to Norway we used two KIS cases, no problems with them, but dont like the telescopic factor.
The best solution is as Tom says above, make your own!
