Weymouth International Boat Angling Challenge
Weymouth International Boat Angling Challenge (WIBAC) is sponsored by Fladen Fishing Tackle in association with Weymouth Angling Centre. This five day event will take place Monday 24th until Friday 28th September 2012 and offers a chance for anglers of all abilities to experience different disciplines of Boat Angling with the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes.
There is a wreck fishing day where you can target the huge Conger that frequent the many war time wrecks on this part of the coast.
The Reef/Bank fishing day takes you to marks such as; the deep hole, 7 mile ground, Kidney bank, to target larger species like Rays, tope, Huss, Conger etc
The Species Hunt is where you target one of each species this event highlights the diversity of the fish found in and around Weymouth & Portland waters. At the 2011 competition 18 different species were caught.
The Species Points day lets you test your skill by targeting 5+5 of individual species (i.e. Pollack are 4 points each so you can catch 5 at 4pts the next 5 are 1 point thereafter they don’t count).
The final day is Lure Only, can you catch fish with no bait or additives? Working a lure in the right way to attract fish is something to be learned and finely tuned, what shocks us all is the amount of fish that can be caught without bait.
The Charter fleet operating out of Weymouth are undoubtedly one of the best in the county. The majority of boats are modern and well equipped, run by experienced and enthusiastic skippers who will go the extra mile to ensure their anglers catch.
The event is run by Andy & Charlie Selby and ably assisted by the teams at WAC & Fladen. Their main priority is to maximise the enjoyment for all competitors. On receipt of your entry your competitor number and competition pack will be sent to you as confirmation and at registration you will receive an Entry Pack with all the information you need for the week including your boat draw.
There is storage provided on the Quay for tackle that you don’t want to cart back and forth. A catering van is open in the mornings and again when the boats return with the addition of a bar on the quay in the afternoons. Half way through the week is a ‘friends, food and fisherman’ night which gives you a chance to catch up with your fellow anglers and compare those all important notes.
The Presentation takes place on the Friday evening and with the generous sponsorship of Fladen the prizes for 2012 are fantastic.

WIBAC Fladen is being promoted worldwide and if we can attract 120+ anglers then the cash prizes will be increased. Previously we have had competitors from Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Germany, France, Netherlands, Norway and Denmark; it truly is an international event. 2012 will see the introduction of a National Team event where 5 (or less) anglers of a country can form a team to become the WIBAC International team winners.
This is not only a varied and challenging competition for angler of all abilities; it is, as intimated by numerous competitors, a week of camaraderie amongst fishermen.
