Fishing achievements include: Opening up the Scottish porbeagle shark fishery in Caithness by landing the first Scottish porgie outwith the Northern Isles. Fifteen caps for EFSA Scotland. Several major open competition wins. My first garfish at Plymouth! Winning a grand at the Weymouth YYS competition
Most memorable fishing event / trip / fish
Winning the Western Isles Open when it was attended by all the top Scottish anglers. I love catching fish of all sizes wherever I am - be it 4 inch pout three-at-a time in Anglesey, 20lb cod in Norway or Iceland, or porbeagles to 175 kg from my home port of Scrabster. I get great satisfaction when I fish a new venue where my research and preparation prior to the trip produces memorable fishing.
Favourite angling type/style
Competition fishing at any boat venue, particularly when targeting new species. Mostly pirk casting at my home venue and wandering down the quiet north beach for bass and flatties.
Interests and hobbies away from fishing
Mucking about with computers. Soaking up the craic with mates and the odd wee tequila. Being a Hearts supporter, which is probably the hardest thing anyone can do in life! Music and going to gigs - James and Alabama 3 are favourites.
Angling hopes and ambitions
To continue to fish new and interesting venues. To get my neglected boat up and running again!
Best piece of advice or top tip
Keep it simple.
I bet you didn’t know
I went to school with two of the Bay City Rollers!

What would you sling in fishing’s room 101?
Half of the lures I’ve bought from ebay before I remembered my 'keep it simple' mantra.
Heroes & influences
Bill and Dave Cable, two brothers from the Bell Rock SAC, who put up with my questions and nagging when I was a bairn fishing during the summer holidays at Clachtol. The book 'Operation Sea Angler' by Mike Ladle.
