A member of WFSA boat team for 5 years until I took a break from International competition to concentrate on my charter boat business. Best result to date was helping Wales to its highest placing of 4th, and finishing in individual 9th in the 2005 CIPS World Boat Championships. Aboard 'My Way' we have had three WFSA shark records: starry smoothound 25lb 60z; tope 79lb and spurdog of 19lb 2oz. All fish were caught & released.

Most memorable fishing event / trip / fish

One memory has stuck with me from early childhood. I remember walking towards Ravens Point on Anglesey armed with a rather small whippy rod (from Woolworths I think) and coming towards me were a pair of teenagers, with one lad having 2 congers hanging from a gaff draped over his shoulder. Panic and worry set in, would my rod be strong enough was the main concern. These feelings were soon overtaken by excitement and adrenalin; to be honest I can’t remember if I caught that day, but I think it was the start of my passion for angling.

Favourite angling type/style

I enjoy all styles of boat angling, from drifting reefs and wrecks to anchoring on various banks and gullies for a variety of species. If I had to identify something as a favourite, it would be drifting for wrasse and pollack around the reefs off the North West Anglesey coast.

Interests and hobbies away from fishing

Football will always be up there alongside angling. There are many arguments on My Way re my relentless support of Liverpool Football Club. Heated debates often ensue especially when the crews have Man Utd or Evertonians among their number.

Angling hopes and ambitions

World peace and a fish filled sea for all anglers.

Best piece of advice or top tip

Listen. If your skipper is worth his salt, he will have unrivaled knowledge on rigs, baits and methods for catching fish in his waters.

I bet you didn’t know

My first team in football was always Nottingham Forest... no idea why!

Angling media / tackle company involvement

I've dabbled in article writing for a number of years with all the major sea angling publications.

What items would you sling in fishing’s room 101?

Bait additives, is there any real substitute for correctly presented fresh or frozen bait?  Bobble hats, oh, and baseball caps when worn in anything over a Force 4... yeah you’re surprised it blew away!

Heroes and influences

Steve Souter: angling achievements say it all. ABC-SAC Club Secretary and WFSA Boat Team manager Robbie Roberts: Rob is a great friend and calming influence, who has helped steer me in my fishing and life in general. I cannot thank him enough.
