I list my personal bests/angling achievements as: a 165lb shore-caught Bronze Whaler shark; a 39lb cod from the boat; overall second- place at the Surfcast Wales International 2007
Most memorable fishing event / trip / fish
Fishing from Namibia’s Skeleton Coast: all serious shore anglers should embark upon this pilgrimage once in their lifetime
Favourite angling type/style
Long range shore fishing
Interests and hobbies away from fishing
Spending time with the family, eating out and holidays etc. And, casting lumps of lead around in fields whilst being told: “You’ll not catch anything in there mate!”
Angling hopes and ambitions
To win an individual World surfcasting medal, and to raise the profile of surfcasting within Scotland who are still leagues behind the other home nations
Best piece of advice or top tip
Use a strip of rubber beer mat attached over the reel foot and held over the spool to gain casting grip in wet conditions… this material not wear out like inner tube
I bet you didn’t know
I am a proud winner of three Home Nations Shore Team Gold medals between 2002 and 2006. I became involved in the casting scene by accident. At my first casting event I was given pointers by some top casters… and ended up winning it!
Angling media / tackle company involvement
Planet Sea Fishing
What would you sling in fishing’s room 101?
‘Lead Lifts’, I despise them, and all who use them!
Heroes & influences
My casting career has been relatively short, but the top man has long been Danny Moeskops. You can only admire that he has remained World Champion for such a long period and broken countless records. Not content with this though, Big Danny is always striving to further his own abilities, even when those around cant mount a serious challenge… a truly outstanding and unique individual
