Rays – The soft or spiny supporting elements of fish fins. Also a group of flat, cartilaginous fish.
Rear drag – a fixed spool reel where the drag adjustment is positioned on the rear of the body of the reel.
Record list – a list of the largest fish of each species caught from the boat or shore.
Red cod – a cod that has been living inshore among the kelp and takes on a red / orange colouration.
Redgill – An artificial, plastic eel which has a paddle tail and with the hook situated within the body. Originally made by the Redgill and now used as a generic term. See also gilling.
Reducer – An extension to a beachcasting rod butt used when casting with the reel low on the butt to aid retrieve. Conoflex produce a captive reducer which twists and extends.
