As sea anglers isolate to escape the spread of the Corona virus John Popplewell takes a look at new terminal gear from Trident Tackle that will help lock down the baits when we can finally get back on the beaches, rocks and piers.
Trident Tackle hails from the north-east of England and was started up by avid angler Gary Williamson who has 45 years of angling experience under his belt. When it comes to terminal tackle such as pulleys, bait clips and anything that will help to streamline end gear, Trident Tackle has it covered.
Please note that while under Government lockdown restrictions Gary and his team are unable to process orders at present. Trident Tackle hope to be up and running as soon as possible after the workplace restrictions are lift and are working from home designing new, innovative products including the Trident Hangover.
Trident Tackle Development Ltd are based in County Durham specialising in fishing tackle design and development and with new tackle in the pipeline it is exciting times for the sea angler. All Trident Tackle is made in Great Britain to a high standard from top quality products.
The Aero Pulley
The Aero Pulley is made from Acetal, a very tough and hard-wearing plastic. The interesting thing about this pulley is that the fishing line is crossed over inside the pulley.
The idea being that when a fish is hooked and being reeled in, the weight rises to the pulley caused by the weight of the fish, it then stays there as the crossed over line acts as a brake even if the fish slackens off. Very ingenious!
The Aero Pulley retails at £2.30 for pack of 12
The Trident Tackle Roto Bait Clip
The Roto Bait Clip is once again made of the same material as the Aero Pulley. In use, it is just a case of clipping it to the lead, and once the hook is clipped on it won’t come off until the lead has hit the water and the force of the water pushes the Roto Clip up releasing the hook.
Basically any style of cast will suit the Roto Clip. For example when using the off the ground cast there can be some slack line before the cast, the locking mechanism of Roto Clip ensures that the baited hook is secured for the the duration of the cast until it hits the water.
The Roto Bait Clip retails at £2.50 for a pack of 12
The Terma Link
The Terma Link is a universal link and has a variety of uses from a quick release for rigs to just clipping a lure or a lead on. Once again it is made from the same hard-wearing plastic that all the other products are made from. It works particularly well in conjunction with the Roto Bait Clip ensuring a smooth release.
The Terma Link retails £2.00 for pack of 12
I have been using all the above Trident products for some time now, before the close down, and have put them through the stringent tests that I put all reviewed tackle through. The Trident Tackle components have come through with flying colours. The Aero Pulley is a great product, by just crossing the line over in the pulley makes for a locking system that stops the lead from dropping once a fish has been hooked and can skip over any obstruction without snagging up. In fact all the Trident Tackle end tackle is well designed, manufactured and very streamlined, resulting in less catching on obstructions.
I found the Roto Bait Clip a boon for those bigger baits that on conventional hook up rigs can sometimes fly off on the cast. No problem for the Roto Clip the hooked bait cannot come off until it hits the water and it works every time! Most regularly sized hooks will fit depending on gauge, I have used up to 4/0 with no problem.
The Terma Link is a simple clip which I found easy to use and can be clipped and unclipped very quickly and is very strong.
All the Trident end tackle comes in multiple colours, black, grey, blue, green, orange, purple, red and yellow.
Trident Tackle can only be bought direct on line from www.tridenttackle.co.uk with free UK shipping on orders over £25.
