Ullcatch Bait Weaver Elastic Dispenser Reviewed
Like most sea anglers, boat and shore, I regularly use bait elastic to secure the various soft baits. Up until now I’ve had to put up with loose spools of elastic thread which, when not loosing itself and unravelling in the corners of my tackle or coolbox, becomes a malodorous, rotting mass reeking of mussel juice. Fortunately Ullcatch have come up with a handy containerised tool which overcomes all of these problems.
The UllCatch Bait Weaver consists of a plastic body which opens via a twist lock to reveal a cylindrical tube onto which the spool of elastic is located and locked in place using a sprung plastic central section. The loose end of the thread is then passed out through the end of the housing before the two sections of the body are locked back in place. The container design is such that it is easy to hold securely no matter what the size of the angler’s hands.
You may find a problem with static electricity attracting the elastic to the sides of the cap when threading but this is simply combated by wetting your pinkie and pushing the thread through the end hole. Once assembled the elastic is held in place by friction at the business end and in use the thread freely flows from the internally located spool.
Along with the spool hosting container Ullcatch supply three spools of elastic, the orange for finesse fishing with delicate baits, green for general use and a blue spool with slightly heavier thread for bulkier baits.
In addition the kit is provided with a lanyard which allows the Bait Weever to be kept close at hand whether hung from a tripod or round your neck and tucked down beneath your outer garment.
All in all this is a well designed, corrosion free product which I will happily ensure that it’s among the first of my kit packed for boat or shore outings.
The best price I have been able to find online is £9.99 at Gerry’s Fishing and further details relating to the Bait Weaver and other Ullcatch prducts can be found on their website – www.ullcatch.com
